BMI (Body Mass Index) is a measure of body fat based on weight and height.
It applies to both women and men. It is calculated with the following
formula : weight (in kilograms) ÷ height (in meters²) = BMI

NIH (the National Institute of Health) classes "overweight" as a BMI of 25 kg/m² or greater. This is consistent with WHO (the World Health Organization) recommendations. There are limitations. The BMI doesn't take % of body fat content into consideration. So a very muscular person with a low % body fat may fall into the overweight category while an elderly person with a high % body fat could be considered a "healthy weight" .
